Graphic Artist
thems. phoenix is looking for graphic artists and illustrators to help bring our event posters to life!
From poetry nights and artist workshops to exhibitions and markets, thems. hosts queer events throughout the year that bring our community together. A huge part of how we tell the story of those events is through playful, hand-illustrated posters that have become part of the thems. visual identity.
We’re looking for graphic artists and illustrators interested in collaborating with us to create original illustrations for upcoming thems. events.
A stipend is provided for each completed illustration.
What You’ll Do
You’ll work alongside the thems. team to:
Create original, hand-drawn or digitally illustrated artwork for select thems. events and programs
Interpret simple event information and theme into engaging illustrations
Develop artwork that complements the existing thems. visual style
Collaborate with our team on concepts, sketches, and occasional revisions
Provide finished illustration files that can be adapted by the thems. team into posters, social graphics, and other event materials
Who We’re Looking For
You do not need to be a professional graphic designer to apply! We’re more interested in your illustration style, ideas, and creative point of view than your ability to design a perfectly typeset poster.
We’d especially love to hear from artists who:
Have a strong illustration, drawing, or character-based practice
Feel comfortable receiving a creative brief and turning it into an original artwork
Can communicate clearly and meet agreed-upon deadlines
Are excited about supporting LGBTQIA+ artists and community
Your work can be digital, hand-drawn, or somewhere in between but should match the existing thems. brand.
About the Role
Artists will be paid per project, this is not a full-time or freelance staff position.
Selected artists will join a small roster of illustrators that thems. can reach out to throughout the year as new events and projects come up. Artists can accept projects based on their interest and availability.
thems. is a queer artist collective and 501(c)(3) nonprofit run by volunteers working to uplift and support LGBTQIA+ artists in Phoenix. Whenever possible, we believe the artists helping us create our programs should be compensated for their creative labor.
This is a great opportunity for illustrators interested in building their portfolio, experimenting with new ideas, collaborating with a queer arts organization, and looking to collaborate with fellow queer artists and event coordinators.
