Fruity Poetry Night Coordinator

thems. phoenix is looking for a community organizer to help us plan and run Fruity Poetry Night!

Fruity Poetry Night is our monthly open mic for queer poets, writers, and storytellers. Fruity Poetry Night is a rare safe space for our community to gather and connect in welcoming and affirming space. Whether someone is an experienced performer, sharing a poem for the first time, or simply coming to listen, we want Fruity Poetry Night to feel enchanting, celebratory, and rooted in community.

As Fruity Poetry Night continues to grow, we’re looking for a volunteer coordinator who is excited about poetry, collaboration, queer community, and bringing people together.

What You’ll Do:

This is not a host or performer position, most work will take place behind the scenes working alongside the thems. team and other volunteers to:

  • Lead communication with featured artists, hosts, venues, and community partners

  • Collaborate with hosts and featured artists to organize the monthly run of show and event logistics

  • Coordinate with volunteers to lead set-up, registration, help keep the evening running smoothly, teardown etc.

  • Help create a beautiful, inclusive, and supportive environment

  • Work with the thems. team to brainstorm themes, collaborations, and ways to grow and sustain the program

  • With volunteers help gather event information, photos, attendance numbers, and other basic program documentation

  • Attend a monthly planning/check-in meeting with other coordinators

Who We’re Looking For:

You do not need to be a professional poet or event producer to apply! We’re especially interested in someone who:

  • Is familiar with and aligned with thems. mission and excited about support and champion LGBTQIA+ artists

  • Loves poetry, writing, and storytelling and has planned or attended poetry open-mics, slams, or competitions in the past

  • Is friendly, organized, communicative, and dependable

  • Can regularly attend Fruity Poetry Night and commit to helping with planning between events (roughly 5 hours per month)

  • Experience with events, community organizing, or nonprofit work is a plus, but not required.

About the Role:

thems. is a queer artist collective and is 100% run by volunteers looking to uplift and support their queer community. We recognize that volunteering is a commitment, we want this role to be collaborative, manageable, and rewarding. The coordinator will work closely with other program coordinators and volunteers to run this community program.

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in arts programming, event production, literary programming, and community organizing while helping shape one of thems.’ longest-running community programs.
